Learn from pharmacists the secrets about how to $AVE on Rx:

*

The new Rx-Xchange service was built by pharmacists in Columbus who want to share with you the many ways you can save money on prescriptions by proposing exchanging one Rx for another -- sometimes being the same drug but in a generic you take twice a day rather than a brand name one a day (that costs $70 more per month than your $8 generic).  They'll give you information you can take with you on your next visit to see your physician.  Then you can ask the Dr. whether the proposed generic substitute or cheaper brand name medication might treat you just as well ... but for savings of 50% or 90% maybe.  Learn more from my favorite pharmacist, Gary Rutherford, at the website he founded: www.Rx-Xchange.com.

Ever wish you had a pharmacist who knew all the secrets about how you could be taking much cheaper medications and get the same effect?

Now you can with Rx-Xchange.  My favorite pharmacist for the past few years is the founder of Rx-Xchange.  His tips have saved me hundreds of dollars per month on several medications.  He can probably do the same for you.

Your report would look something like this:

Other ways to save on Rx?

Read at right about:

Rx Coupons (that you can sometimes use at Giant Eagle, CVS, or Kroger regardless whether the coupon is from Giant Eagle, CVS or Kroger ... or another competitor in the area -- such as Kmart, Walgreens, etc.).

Rx Ping-Pong (maximizing the number of times you can use Rx coupons)

More details on which stores offer which generic drugs (and in which dosages) at special prices -- typically $4 (30 days, pills) or $10 (3 months, 90 pills).

Rx Coupons offer incentives for you to transfer prescriptions to a new pharmacy and/or to bring them a new prescription.

Which pharmacies issue these
Rx Coupons?
  • Giant Eagle (typically worth $1 in FuelPerks; up to $30 in free/discounted fuel per new/transferred prescription; FuelPerks used to last 90 days minimum; now 60 days minimum).

  • Target ($10 gift card per new/transferred prescription; no limit)

  • Kroger ($20 to $25 Rx Rewards for transfer; limit one per customer per day; limit 3 or 4 or so per person per lifetime ... before they ban you from ever using an Rx coupon again ... and, if you complain about the false "We Gladly Accept Competitor Coupons" sign and poor customer service at pharmacy, they may ban you from ever shopping at any of their stores ever again)

  • Meijer ($10 to $20 gift card with transfer; but their service is so awful, it's not worth it.)

  • Maximizing your savings on prescriptions through using Rx coupons means you'd use more than one pharmacy -- occasionally transferring a prescription from one pharmacy to another so you can more often use an Rx coupon. Most require a TRANSFER. And most people only get a NEW prescription once or twice per year for each medication. This blog will give you some tips on how best to manage doing this "ping-pong" transferring of your prescriptions to be able to maximize your savings and perhaps allow you to afford all of the medications your family needs.

What else do you need to know to maximize your savings with Rx coupons and Rx Ping-Pong?

  • UPDATES on where to find Rx Coupons in central Ohio. Lets you know which stores included coupons in the newspaper recently, included them in Weekly Specials store flyers, or otherwise distributed them.

  • The Rx Coupon MATRIX:
    Which pharmacies accept competitor Rx coupons (and what limitations and/or hassles should you expect, if any)? This also indicates if they are willing to accept more than one of their OWN coupons (1 per prescription, of course; and a coupon required for each transferred prescription and/or new one).

Best about taking coupons (competitors):
* CVS
* Giant Eagle
(Kroger)

Best about taking their OWN coupons:
* Target
* CVS
* Kmart
* Giant Eagle
* Meijer

Worst of all (at everything involving Rx coupons):
* Kroger
* Walgreen's

Best & Worst Pharmacies
for Rx coupons

--> http://BestWorstRx.blogspot.com

Which pharmacies are the best (and worst) about:

  • Taking their own Rx coupons (without hassles or silly restrictions like one per day or one per 6 months or prohibiting you from ever using them again after a certain number have been redeemed).
  • Taking competitors' Rx coupons.

2010 UPDATES:

The "Never Need to Transfer" campaign of CVS in Central Ohio is over.  Sorry.

Giant Eagle is again taking competitor coupons more often than once per 6 months (something they started back in December 2009).  They now take them at the restricted rate of ONE PER DAY.  Unfortunately, though, they have changed the rate at which they accept their OWN coupons -- only accepting ONE PER DAY.  So, if you want to take 8 prescriptions to their brand new Market District location in Upper Arlington, you'd have to make 9 trips -- one to drop them off and 8 more ... one per day or so ... to pick them up.  This is on top of the "GasPerks" you get with their Rx coupons expiring much faster than they used to (it used to be 90 days past the end of the current month; it's now 60 days).
